Why Selling Scrap is the First Step Towards a Greener Mumbai ♻️
Mumbai generates over 9,000 metric tons of waste daily. That’s enough to fill 15 Juhu beaches every single day. But here’s the twist – a staggering 40% of this “waste” isn’t trash at all. It’s valuable scrap like metal, paper, plastic, and electronics that could be recycled, reused, and given a new life.
The problem? Most of it ends up in landfills like Deonar, where it rots, pollutes our air, and clogs our waterways. But there’s a simple, powerful solution hiding in plain sight: selling scrap.
How Selling Scrap Makes Mumbai Greener
-
-
Reduces Landfill Burden
Every kilogram of scrap you sell is a kilogram NOT choking our city’s landfills. -
Saves Natural Resources
Recycling 1 ton of steel saves 1.5 tons of iron ore – imagine the forests and mines we could protect! -
Cuts Pollution
Recycling produces 75% less air pollution than making new products from raw materials. -
Empowers the Circular Economy
Your old fridge could become part of a new building. That broken phone? Its parts might power streetlights.
-
But Here’s the Catch
Most Mumbaikars want to recycle, but face three big hurdles:
-
-
-
“Where do I even start?”
-
“Will I get a fair price?”
-
“Is my scrap really being recycled, or just dumped elsewhere?”
-
-
This is where Bhangar Becho steps in – to turn good intentions into real green action.
